The Police in Dominica have destroyed drugs confiscated by them and gone through the court system over the past six years.
According to the head of the Drug Squad Unit Inspector Charles Dominique, they are disposing of cannabis and cocaine which were seized from 2014 to 2020 and they will all be fully destroyed.
“In my possession, I have 3,400 cannabis plants, cannabis cured we have 4, 562.3 pounds, 13 cannabis cigarettes, cannabis seeds 11 pounds, cannabis raisin 6.2 pounds, cocaine 446.1 pounds,” Inspector Dominique stated.
In the presence of the media, the drugs were set ablaze. “The total weight of the cannabis which includes the seeds, plants, etc is 4,596.3 pounds and all these are matters which have been dealt with and disposed of by the court and which were kept in our custody as exhibits. We are now going to destroy them as we usually do over the years,” he said.
The police did not give a street value for the drugs destroyed but stated that even during the period of curfew as a result of COVID-19 and borders closed; persons still continued plying their drug trade.
“It never stopped they were a bit restricted but as usual they always find a way to transact their business and as criminals, they have no borders and will always find a way to do their criminal acts. So we have our task cut out for us and so we go out there doing what we have to do irrespective of COVID-19,” Inspector Dominique stated.
