The Dominica Freedom Party (DFP) has become the second political party in Dominica to postpone its Delegates’ Convention for 2021 due to the upsurge in COVID-19 cases in Dominica.
Recently, the newly formed Alternative People’s Party (APP) whose Delegates’ Convention was slated to be held in August of 2021 took a decision to postpone it.
“The COVID-19 pandemic continues to pose a serious health threat to our country, people, and challenges to our economic and social way of life and in particular the spike we are experiencing at this time which has drastically increased the number of positive cases on Island. The DFP in this regard has decided to postpone its Delegates’ Convention which was scheduled to take place during the third quarter of this year and will announce a new date when it is appropriate to do so,” Johnson Boston, Chairman, of the Dominica Freedom Party said.
According to the release, the Dominica Freedom Party, over the past seven (7) months has been engaged in building and strengthening its party’s machinery from all levels which has shown encouraging signs. This work will continue going forward.
“The DFP believes strongly that there must be a total focus and joint efforts to overcome this deadly virus. We, therefore, appeal to the general public to take responsibility for their health and that of their family by continuing to cooperate with the authorities and practice the hygienic protocols that are in place for our safety.”
“The Dominica Freedom Party takes this opportunity to again thank the Ministry of Health and all frontline workers for their hard work and humanitarian efforts in keeping us safe. We remain convinced that the Coronavirus requires continuous attention and education particularly on the use of vaccination,” he remarked.
The DFP, he stated, wishes to compliment all those who are positively engaged in that effort and to inform the general public that the DFP will host a series of panel discussions to be broadcast live on several online platforms. The purpose of the discussion is to aid in the educational process. The first such discussion will take place on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, from 8:00 pm on the topic “Vaccination or Vulnerability” with an experienced panel of medical doctors and researchers, to be moderated by Bernard Hurtault, Political Leader of the Dominica Freedom Party. The public is also encouraged to join the discussion on Facebook @Dominica Freedom Party.
