Is Joshua Francis contesting the December 6 Elections?

As the date for nomination November 18, 2022, draws near, there continues to be speculation about the future of former Roseau South MP Joshua Francis and his political future.

Francis, an attorney by profession, is a former deputy political leader of the United Workers Party (UWP) and a former parliamentary representative of the Roseau South Constituency. He lost the 2019 General Elections to Cherika Lockhart Hypolite of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP).

According to Nature Isle News (NIN) investigations, Francis still has the political inclination and is still a “force to reckon with.”

“He is a force in the political arena and he just can’t be written off, he may very well be in the fray for the 2022 December General Elections,” an individual with close contact with Francis stated.

Reports are that, come November 18, 2022, Francis may “very well contest as an independent candidate, given the current state of affairs in Dominica.”

“You can not write him off, he is well loved and can cause damage so keep close to the situation,” the source stated.

When contacted by Nature Isle News (NIN) about his political future, Francis stated that at present his attention is on his law practice.

Asked if his name will be on the ballot as an independent candidate he stated, “I am concentrating on my legal practice and that is all I have to say.”
