Champions Colts

Grand Bay Credit Union Colts came from behind to register a comprehensive victory over defending champions Go Sports Tremors en route to lifting the Dominica Cricket Association Augustus Gregoire Division One championship.

In the championship match contested over the weekend at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium, Colts stunned Tremors by securing a comprehensive seven wickets victory.

In the bright and sunny weather, Tremors captain Martin Matthew won the toss and decided to take the first knock. His team got off to a good start as openers Jerlani Robinson and Stephan Pascal posted 75 for the first wicket. From there, it was all downhill for the Tremors batting as they were bowled out for 150 before lunch. Jerlani Robinson with 38 and Stephan Pascal with 36 were the leading contributors as Alvinson Jolly bagged 5 for 51. Jolly received good support from Jahseon Alexander with 2 for 39.

In pursuit of 151 for first innings honors, Colts was bowled out for 138. Alick Athanzae top scored with 65. Akan Edwards aided the total with 30.

Bowling for Tremors Martin Matthew took 5 for 38 and Malakai Xavier took 3 for 25.

With a lead of 12 runs on first innings and batting a second time, Tremors batting never got going as wickets fell at regular intervals. Tremors closed day one on 36 for 6 with an overall lead of 48 with four wickets in hands.

Upon the resumption of play on day two, Tremors quickly folded for 56 to set Colts a victory target of 69. Only Martin Matthew with 13 tried to put up some resistance. Curtney Anselm was the main destroyer of the Tremors batting taking 7 for 14. Jahseon Alexander claimed 3 for 16.

In pursuit of 69 runs to lift their second title, after having won in 2004, Colts was immediately pegged back as opener Akan Alexander was bowled off the first delivery of the innings. However, Alick Athanaze 26 and Yawani Registe 18 not out repaired the damage as Colts reached 69 for 3 to spark the celebrations.

Bowling for Tremors Martin Matthew claimed all three wickets to fall at a cost of 17 runs.

Curtney Anselm was named as the Man of the Match. Alick Athanaze received the award for having scored most runs in the match.

Final scores in the match Tremors 150 and 56 all out, Colts 138 and 69 for three.

NIN extends congratulation to Colts for capturing their second Premier Division Title.
