Head coach of the national women’s team and football enthusiast Albert Titre is elated by Government’s decision for sporting activities to resume.
On Wednesday, the Health Minister Dr. Irving McIntyre announced that Government had eased the restrictions brought about by COVID-19 and had given the green light for all sporting activities to resume with spectators.
Titre, who was a strong advocate for the quick resumption of sporting activities, said that he is very excited over the decision taken.
“It is a wonderful feeling getting the green light for the resumption of sports. Every single player was waiting anxiously for that day to come. Thanks to the authorities for keeping us in check. We all know the challenges with the pandemic, COVID-19,” he said excitedly.
He revealed that he used the opportunity during the lock down to refocus and to plan.
“As a coach, I took advantage of the break and it gave me the opportunity to reflect and to plan for the future. So when the green light was given, it was just the opportunity to continue my work and to carry out my plans.
“One of the things that we planned was organizing a summer football technical enhancement program for the students of the Newtown Juvenile Football Academy.
“We believe that it is important to create a smooth transition to get the youths into playing once again. We were preparing and just waiting anxiously to put this program into action. Once again, I am happy as a coach and waiting to pass that knowledge to the youths,” he stated.
Meanwhile, president of the Dominica Football Association (DFA), Glen Etienne believes that competitive football should resume within the next few weeks. He has urged the clubs to step up their preparations. The DFA was the first sporting association to halt its football activities due to COVID-19.
Also, domino organizer, Delvin Esprit said that he is just happy for sports to resume and is urging all associations to get moving and to resume competitions as soon as possible.
