The football fraternity in Dominica is saddened by the passing of former national player Cuffy “Long Cuffy” Alcid.
Reports are that he died suddenly on August 19, 2025.
“Long Cuffy,” as he was affectionately known, is from the Roseau catchment area and a member of the Kensbro football club.
Clifford “Bala” Celaire described the news as “shocking” and said Long Cuffy was a football giant not only for Kensbro but also for Dominica.
An electrician by profession, Long Cuffy was a tower of strength in the defense of Kensbro and Dominica.
With the likes of Robertson “Coco-shoe” Hypolite, Renick Thomas, and Albert “Panman” Bellot, among others, they became a household name in Dominica’s football.
One vividly remembers the battles between the Kensbro United and the Harlem Bombers in the 80s, which would send hundreds of football fans to Windsor Park to witness this epic battle that Long Cuffy and the rest were part of.
Long live Long Cuffy as he journeys to the great beyond and joins the likes of the late Gifford Walsh and the other outstanding Dominican footballers.
Rest in Eternal Peace.
