Dominica’s defending Premiere Division Football Champions Dublanc FC are through to the semi-finals of the 2024 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Shield taking place in Curacao.
Dublanc entered its third game with Village Superstars of St. Kitts having played two matches in under 6 days and winning all.
That gave was do or die since the loser would atomically be eliminated from the competition since it was quarter-final playoffs.
Travist Joseph put Dublanc in the lead very early in the first half and made it 2-0 by the 30th minute of play. However, Village Superstars playing their first game of the tournament took advantage of a tired Dublanc team playing without Chad Bertrand who was out serving a red card suspension, and made it 2-1 at the interval.
Village Superstars kept the momentum into the second half but were denied through the brilliance of goalkeeper Jerome Burkard. However, Village Superstars got that all-important equalizer in the 2 minutes of the 4 minutes of extra time sending the game into penalty kicks at the end of the final whistle.
Again, the brilliance of goalkeeper Jerome Burkard came into play when he saved the third penalty of the Village Superstars player and Dublanc scored all its five penalties to win that game 5-4 on penalty kicks.
