Football players from around the island will soon take to the field in search of football supremacy when the Dominica Football Association (DFA) resumes its football activities.
The DFA was forced to halt all football-related activities owing to the COVID -19 pandemic, which brought all sports to a halt.
However, with the lifting of restrictions and the pronouncements regarding sports made by Health Minister, Dr. Irving McIntyre, the DFA has announced a date for competitive action to resume.
According to officials of the DFA, the Premier Division League will resume on Saturday, 25th July 2020, and the Division One League to resume shortly after.
With the resumption of the football leagues, certain protocols as directed by the Ministry of Health will have to be observed by footballers and spectators alike. The DFA is putting in place systems to have all the temperatures of all players taken before they can take their places on the bench. In addition to that, the players must wear masks or suitable face coverings while on the bench and must sit at least three feet apart from each other. Hand hygiene will be emphasized as well.
As it relates to the spectators, measures will be put in place to ensure that they make minimum contact with the players and team officials.
The matches are expected to be played at Dublanc, Portsmouth, and the Windsor Park Sports Stadium. The Stockfarm facility will not be immediately used since rehabilitation and other works are currently being done all in an effort to upgrade the facility.
Sagicor South East is the defending Premier Division champions while Harlem Sports and Community Club won last year’s Division One title.
All clubs are in preparation mode for the resumption of the action and have been engaged in steady practice over the last few weeks.
