Hamilton is not thrilled with performance despite setting a national record

Despite the fact that she accomplished one of the objectives that she set for herself ahead of the 2021 World Athletics Under 20 Championship in Nairobi, Kenya, national under 20 Shot Put athlete Treneese Hamilton believes that her performance did not live up to expectations.

Hamilton, a Carifta Games silver and bronze medalist, who had set her eyes on a new national record achieved that feat, however, it was not enough to secure her spot on the medal podium.

On Saturday, she rewrote the national record books when she threw a distance of 13.22 meters in her second attempt. Her first attempt went a distance of 12.50 meters, while her third and final attempt of 11.95 meters was nowhere close to the distance that she needed to advance to the last eight.

Speaking to Nature Isle News (NIN) after her event, Hamilton opined that her performance could have been better.

“I felt quite disappointed about my performance at the games because deep down I knew that I could have actually done better. All in all, I am very thankful for the opportunity to represent my country once again in the midst of this pandemic. I could have definitely tweaked my technique a little bit so that I could have gotten the maximum distance that I needed to at least medal,” she indicated.

With the disappointment of the games behind her, the promising athlete has already focused her attention on the next big opportunity.

She added, “My next move will be to work as hard as I can to be able to perform better in the next World Under 20 Championship which will be held in Cali, Colombia next year. I definitely need to improve on that distance of 13.22 meters. I definitely will be looking forward to improving on the distance that I set as the national under 20 records.

Hamilton finished in 9th position overall. The event was won by South African Mine De Klerk with a throw of 17.40 meters.
