National athlete, Treneese Hamilton is confident of an impressive showing when she gets her big opportunity as she prepares to participate in the 2021 World Athletics Under 20 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya.
During her participation at the games, the young athlete will try to achieve two main objectives, namely the breaking of the national shot put record as well as finding favor with collegiate scouts.
Hamilton, who left the island a few days ago, accompanied by her coach Joel Hamilton, will participate in the Shot Put event on 21st August 2021.
Ahead of her big day, Hamilton said that she is looking to give her all and has her sights on bettering her personal best which is 13.96 meters as well as breaking the national record which currently stands at 16.24 meters.
“I hope and pray that I can perform better than I ever did before. My aim is to get an extra three meters on my personal best. I am feeling rather confident going into this competition. I have a good feeling that I will be able to surpass my personal best and will challenge the national record that still stands,” the former Dominica Grammar School athlete told Nature Isle News just after her first training session in the Kenyan capital.
As she sets to compete on the global stage, Hamilton says that her preparations have been very well planned, thanks to her longtime coach, Joel Hamilton.
“My preparations thus far have been very strategic I must say. We worked on a lot of technique and speed so that I can be able to extend and get as many meters as I can.
“My coach, Joe Hamilton has worked with me since 1st form. He carefully plans my workout routines. On certain days I would do technical work and other days I would do strength work. He has really helped me to grow over the years,” she says with a deep sense of gratitude.
Apart from her goal of setting a new personal best, the Dominica State College student intends to make this opportunity count and is hoping to catch the eyes of scouts from American schools and elsewhere.
“At this competition, I hope that I will be able to catch the attention of American schools so that I can get a chance to show that Dominica has a lot of potentials and that even though we are from a small country, we can go very far once we put our minds to it,” according to the Carifta bronze and silver medalist.
Hamilton is thankful to the Almighty, her family, and friends for seeing her through thus far. She also had special commendations for the Dominica Olympic Committee and the Dominica Amateur Athletic Association for providing her the opportunity to showcase her talent. Hamilton holds national records in under 15, 17, and 20 Shot Put.
It’s about time she get recognized.
