South East takes the lead

Defending champions Sagicor General South East FC kept their hopes alive of winning back to back championships.

In their penultimate game of the second round of the Dominica Football Association’s (DFA) Premier Division League, the defending champions came from behind to walk away with three crucial points.

In a must-win game on Saturday at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium, South East FC defeated title contenders and former champions Promex Harlem FC by three goals to one in front of a very appreciative crowd.

Harlem had the better of the exchanges and took the lead in the first half through a beautiful goal by Audel Laville.

In the second half, however, it was all South East FC as they played with a great sense of purpose and scored three unanswered goals.

Rai Phillip, who had an outstanding game, found the equalizer very early in the second half. Midway through the second half, South East FC took the lead when Davon George converted. The deal was sealed as Javid George, who came in as a second-half substitute, made it three goals to one for a two goals cushion.

The defeat has eliminated Harlem from the championship race while the win pushed the defending champions to 34 points, two more than nearest rivals Happi Bath Estate FC.

Bath Estate will have an opportunity to retake the lead when they take on Belfast Estate Mahaut Soca Strikers FC in the second encounter of a doubleheader today at the WPSS. The first encounter will feature title contenders Central Cooperative Credit Union LTD Dublanc FC and LA Enterprises Bombers FC. Both clubs have an outside chance of winning the championship which will be decided in the final round of matches next weekend.

In other Premier Division results, East Central FC won by default over Exodus FC who failed to show up for the second consecutive game.

On Friday at the Benjamin Park in Portsmouth, Petro Caribe Pointe Michel defeated WE United by two goals to one. Jante Casimir and Daneal Dupigny scored for the winners.
