
PRESS RELEASE
Roseau, Dominica – Chess players from the Dominica Chess Federation are set to participate in the 2nd edition of the Caricom Classic Chess Tournament in Guyana from June 30th – July 7th, 2025.
The Dominica chess team comprises 4 players in the main category:
- Nigel Francis (CM, FIDE Rating: 1803),
- Edger Berridge (Not yet rated by FIDE),
- Liudmila Domennova (FIDE Rating: 1452),
- Ayani Casimir (FIDE Rating: 1602).
In the junior section, Dominica is represented by Cajani Dejean (not yet rated by FIDE), an outstanding chess player from the St Mary’s Academy who will compete among 47 young participants from four countries.
Carlton Morvan will accompany the team as Coach and Delegate, providing guidance and support throughout the event.
Nigel, Edger, and Liudmila earned their places by finishing as the top two male and female players at the Open Chess Tournament in March 2025. Ayani Casimir, the current national women’s champion, was selected for the team based on her title, consistent performance, and strong commitment to the sport. Cajani Dejean was chosen for the junior section as 1 of the top performers at the 2024 Under 18 tournament who stands ready to represent Dominica on the regional stage.
