Stars reign supreme

Poise, sequence, and ability were the perfect combinations as Wake Up Stars earned the right to be called the best domino team on the island.

In a very keenly contested finals on Sunday at Jimmit, the Portsmouth based team edged out Golden Arms of Soufriere by the slimmest of margins to capture the 2020 El Dorado Soca Rum Domino Competition.

The competition which started in January saw Wake Up Stars making a late surge en route to capturing the coveted title as they defeated their opponents by a final score of 3837 points to 3881 points when the action came to an end at the scheduled 6 pm cut off time.

The pair of Royston Cadore and Martin Peter proved too much for their opponents as they totaled 2189 points. The duo was ably supported by Denis Johnson and Dennison Bell with 615 points.

For Golden Arms, Royce Caesar and Randell Robinson scored 2,071 points with Ian Lazare and Melvin Moreau giving good support with 1398 points.

For their exploits, the winners walked away with EC$3000, a trophy, and a cartoon of mixed drinks. The runners up took home EC$1800, a trophy, and a cartoon of mixed drinks.

Main organizer, Delvin Esprit said that the competition was well executed and that he was very happy with the outcome.

“I must say that I am very happy with what transpired here today. The match went to the wire and the better team prevailed. So, certainly, we saw a good exhibition of dominoes here today.

“We were forced to halt this competition because of COVID-19. Thank God, we were able to see the successful completion. Sincerest thanks to the sponsors and the players for their support throughout. They all made it possible,” he remarked.

A total of 19 teams took part in the competition. Public Enemies of Mahaut were the defending champions.
