Summits lift first title

Promising youth player Kyron Phillip starred with both bat and ball as he helped his team secure its first cricket title.

In the finals played on Saturday at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium, KFC Summits emerged as the champions of the 2020 Dominica Cricket Association Intermediate Cricket League.

Summits, in only their second season in competitive cricket, defeated newcomers Red Rock Bramblers by one wicket in a keenly contested final.

The champions won the toss and invited their opponents to take first knock. John Fabian blasted his way to a stroke-filled 82 as his team reached 161 all out in 25.3 overs in the 40 overs aside contest.

Bowling for Summits, Karian Phillip was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed four for 32 in 8 overs. Phillip received excellent support from Dalaney Edwards who finished with three for 27. Augustine St. Jean and Donald Clarke claimed one wicket apiece.

Set a victory target of 162, Summits reached 164 for nine with two balls to spare. Phillip was again in the spotlight as he battled his way to an unbeaten 83. He was ably supported by Nicholas Bruno who hit 43.

For the Bramblers, Oswald George bagged four for 23 and Damian Thomas took two for 48.

Following the game, a disappointed Bramblers captain John Fabian blamed his team’s defeat on poor fielding, especially at crucial stages. According to Fabian, his team dropped too many catches and these errors were responsible for their demise.

Meanwhile, stand-in captain, Elton Mark, showered his team with praises saying that their combined efforts helped secure the championship.

NIN extends congratulations to the KFC Summits on their victory.
