Sunil Ambris to lead the Windwards Islands Volcanoes in the 2024 CWI Super50

The Windward Islands’ selectors have named the experienced Sunil Ambris as captain of the Windward Islands Volcanoes 14-member squad for the 2024 Cricket West Indies (CWI) Super50 tournament.

Ambris takes over the captaincy from Alick Athanaze, who became unavailable due to international cricketing duties. Ambris will also be without the services of Shamar Springer and Kavem Hodge after the third and sixth rounds of matches respectively due to upcoming international duties.

The tournament will be played in Trinidad and Tobago at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, the Queens Park Oval, and the UWI Sports and Physical Education Centre. The Volcanoes’ first game will be a day/night game on Tuesday, October 29th against the Guyana Harpy Eagles. Each of the eight teams will play seven preliminary matches before the play-offs.

The Volcanoes team is currently in St. Vincent and the Grenadines preparing for the tournament under former West Indies pacer, Kenroy Peters. Coach Peters expressed his satisfaction with how preparations have been going, barring a few interruptions from inclement weather. He noted the absence of senior players like Alick Athanaze and Johnson Charles but was hopeful that once the current players continue to show the same commitment and dedication they showed during the 2024 first-class competition, the team would certainly challenge for the trophy.
