Roseau – August 08 2024 The United Workers Party (UWP) extends congratulations to Thea Lafond Gadson on securing a gold medal and setting a new National Record in the Women’s Triple Jump at the Paris Olympics. Her feat has rightly triggered tremendous national and international attention to our beautiful island of Dominica.
This outstanding achievement came just a few months after she secured the world indoor title in the same event and is a fitting testament to her commitment, dedication, and hard work, which she continues to exhibit. Indeed, just this past June her efforts and achievements in the field of Track and Field were publicly acknowledged by the UWP when
she was awarded for outstanding achievement in sports, during our Economic Revival Summit and Awards Ceremony.
The UWP understands the tremendous contributions that can come from our young people who invest their time and effort in sports.
However, more needs to be done to encourage this participation by developing sporting facilities and greater investment in sports.
In that regard, the construction of an all-weather athletic facility is long overdue and must be built urgently. We continue to wish Thea continued success as she works to represent
Dominica on the world stage.
