A fine half-century by Windward Islands all-rounder and Test hopeful, Kavem Hodge was not enough to ensure victory for his team. However, it was an unbeaten half-century from Khamal Hamilton that helped his team to secure the coveted title for the second consecutive year.
In the finals of the 2020, Big Edge Gifford Toussaint Softball Cricket League VF Inc defeated Conal by one wicket at the Poree Park in Pointe Michel on Sunday.
In front of a very appreciative crowd, Conal batted first and reached 192 all out in 19.1 overs. Hodge led the way with 89. He was ably supported by Sherwin Labassiere with 36.
Bowling for VF Inc, Khamal Hamilton claimed three for 20 while Odiamar Honore bagged three for 27.
In search of 193 for victory and the top cash prize of $2000, VF Inc reached 195 for 9 in 19 overs with Khamal Hamilton blasting an unbeaten 51. Odiamar Honore and Thompson Joseph gave good contributions with 34 and 25 runs respectively.
Kevin Albert with two for 18 and Sherwin Labassiere with two for 37 were the chief wicket-takers for Conal. Conal walked away with $1000. A total of 12 teams participated in the league.
Meanwhile, league organizer, Heston Charles has described the league as “a tremendous success”.
