Vidal is equal to the task at hand

Newly appointed General Secretary of the Dominica Football Association (DFA) Jarsmine Vidal has opined that her interest in football and her academic qualifications will serve her well as she embarks on her new journey.

Vidal, who previously worked at the International Organization for Migration office in Dominica as well as the Anichi Development among others, assumed her position a few weeks ago, taking over from Corinthia Carbon who resigned just under a year ago.

According to Vidal, she is well equipped to manage football challenges on a daily basis as she is well prepared and the position fits in nicely with her academic background.

“First and foremost it was during my research of the position I realized that my professional experience and my educational background were in line with what the job required. I also got a better understanding of the scope that football has and I really realized how many opportunities for growth there are. The Dominica Football Association is very active and I feel that I can contribute towards the further growth and development of the sport of the island,” posits Vidal, who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Management from the University of the West Indies (UWI), graduating with 1st Class Honors.

Vidal, who is very involved in community activities, also holds an Associate Degree in Accounting, Economics, and French and has been keenly following football for some time now.

“I had an interest in football prior to taking up this appointment. Actually, I wanted to train when I was in high school but I did not get the opportunity to do so. However, I do have friends who play and I normally follow their progress. Also, I follow football on the news as well and sports news generally so I am well abreast as to what is going on in terms of football and other sporting activities,” remarked Vidal, who is also an avid hiker.

While there may be many tasks and projects to be accomplished, Vidal has her eyes on women’s football and its further development.

“The area that I would like to tackle immediately is women’s football. I believe that there is a need for greater opportunities for women to play football competitively both seasoned and younger players. This can really develop the game among women. I also want to create a greater level of equality and a strong presence of women players similar to that of the men,” she observed.

Vidal, who was appointed by the Executive Committee of the DFA on the recommendation of President Glen Etienne, said that she intends to make a meaningful contribution during her tenure at the DFA.
