Roseau DOMINICA, (January 11, 2023)- On Wednesday, January 3, 2024, Celebrity Cruises’ MV Emerald Azzurra graced the Cabrits Cruise Ship Berth, introducing one hundred (100) cruise passengers to Dominica’s shores. A plaque exchange ceremony was held aboard the ship at 10:30 am to commemorate the ship’s initial visit. This marked the first of two (2) calls the ship will make during the 2023/24 cruise season.
Emerald Azzurra, an impressive passenger ship built in 2022, sails under the flag of the Bahamas. She boasts a gross tonnage of five thousand, one hundred seventy-five (5 175) and a current draught of 4.3 meters. Her overall length is 110 meters, and her width spans 16 meters. The MV Emerald Azzurra has a carrying capacity of one hundred (100) passengers, seventy-six (76) crew members, seven (7) decks, and fifty (50) cabins.
The passengers of MV Emerald Azzurra were part of immersive tours in the North, including visits to Purple Turtle Beach, known for its pristine waters and vibrant marine life, the Indian River that offers a glimpse into the island’s rich biodiversity, the Cabrits National Park, home to a historic fort and diverse wildlife, and the Syndicate nature trail, a haven for birdwatchers.
For the 2023/24 cruise season, two hundred twenty-two (222) cruise calls are projected, bringing in over three hundred sixty thousand (360,000) passengers to the island. Of these, thirteen (13) are expected to be inaugural calls. As of December, Dominica had received sixty-nine (69) cruise calls, bringing in eighty-six thousand, three hundred sixty-three (86 363) passengers. Of these, sixty-two thousand, eight hundred forty-three (62 843) disembarked, with thirty-six thousand nine (36 009) engaging in organized tours.
