Weather Outlook for Dominica and the Lesser Antilles
Valid from: 6:00 AM on Sunday, 24 August 2025
A strong tropical wave, which is being monitored for development, is approaching the region. There is a medium chance that this system could develop into a tropical depression within the next day or two as it moves quickly westward and is expected to pass through the island chain later tonight. Regardless of development, locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds are expected across Dominica tonight into Monday. A Flood Watch or Warning may be required for the overnight period. Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring for updates.
An increase in Saharan dust is expected today, leading to reduced air quality and visibility. Individuals with respiratory sensitivities are advised to take the necessary precautions. Mariners should ensure they carry navigational devices.
A gradual deterioration in sea conditions is expected today. Seas will be slight to moderate at first, with wave heights peaking to 3 feet along the west coast and up to 7 feet along the east coast. During the afternoon, wave heights on the west coast are expected to increase to a peak of 7 feet by tonight, and waves on the eastern shore are expected to reach near 12 feet. All users of the sea are strongly advised to take early action to safeguard their lives and property and to stay informed about the latest updates.
