TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS FOR DOMINICA…

As of 8 a.m., the Tropical Storm Warning will remain in effect for Dominica. A Tropical
Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected within the warning
area, generally within 36 hours.
At 8 a.m., the center of Tropical Storm Tammy was located near latitude 14 North, longitude, 58.4 West or about 217 miles southeast of Dominica. Tammy is now moving at 8mph towards the west-northwest.
Maximum sustained winds are near 65mph and extend outward up to 140 miles.
primarily to the east of the center. The estimated earliest arrival of a tropical storm for winds is 2 p.m. on Friday 20th October 2023.
KEYNOTES:
- Tammy has significantly slowed in its forward trajectory;
- Tammy is better organized and has slightly intensified;
- Tammy is expected to change direction more Northerly as the day progresses;
- Most of the tropical-storm-force winds and heavy rains remain in the Northeastern
section of the Storm.
EXPECTED CONDITIONS:
● Tropical storm force winds on Friday between 39 to 73mph;
● An increase in showers and thunderstorm activity today which could result in
flooding, possibly 50 to 100 mm/ 2 to 4 inches of rainfall or greater in higher
elevation of possibly 6 inches;
● Continued deterioration in sea conditions today from 3.0 m/ 10.0 ft up to 4m or
12.0 ft on Friday night.
EXPECTED IMPACTS:
● Rivers, streams, gutters, and ravines will likely overflow their banks and flood
surrounding areas;
● Landslides and rock falls;
● Loose objects could become missiles in gusty winds;
● People living near the coast will be impacted.
Residents should continue to monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Tammy and ensure
that they have their hurricane season plans finalized and activated to protect life, property
and livelihood.
