The Commonwealth Youth Games is an invaluable springboard for the stars and leaders of tomorrow, contributing to the further development of youth sports throughout the Commonwealth. The Games have traditionally taken place every four years with the first event being hosted in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2000. The seventh Commonwealth
Youth Games will take place on the islands of Trinidad and Tobago between 4-11 August 2023. 1000 + athletes and para-athletes between the ages of 14-18 will participate in seven sports managed by 500 + officials. At the last Commonwealth Youth Games held in the Bahamas in 2017, Dominica’s sprinter Danelson Mahautiere captured Silver
for Dominica with a U-18 National Record, clocking at 21.61s in the 200m. This marked Dominica’s 3rd medal overall at all Commonwealth Youth Games.
Billy Doctrove, President of the Dominica Olympic Committee commented “The Commonwealth Youth Games provides an excellent opportunity for some of Dominica’s athletes to compete in a multi-sport Games environment, to gain invaluable sporting experience and demonstrate the strength of youth as leaders and ambassadors for
Dominica. We are also happy to see Dominica represented in Swimming for the first time in Dominica’s history at the Commonwealth Youth Games. With the majority of the team having competed at a high level at various times this year through substantial support from the Dominica Olympic Committee, we are hopeful that their hard work will pay off with positive results in these Games. I take this opportunity to wish all the athletes and officials a successful and enjoyable 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games.”
