The just-concluded inaugural Newtown Juvenile Football Academy(NJFA) Summer Football Enhancement Program has been hailed as a tremendous success.
The two weeks Summer Enhance Program which ended with a prize-giving ceremony on Saturday, 8th August 2020 brought together several young footballers. According to organizers of the event, the main objectives of the activities were to teach the young boys and girls the fundamentals of football as well as to inculcate in them some values needed to make progress in life.
The daily sessions, which began at 9 am at the Newtown Primary School and ended at 1 pm with practical sessions at the Newtown Savannah, is being showered with praises.
According to the coordinator of the event, Albert Titre, the event was well worth the effort
“The NJFA Summer Football Enhancement Program was a tremendous success from all accounts and based on the feedback that we have received from various individuals and organizations. As was stated previously, the program was intended to ensure the smooth transition of the young boys and girls.
“We are all aware of the difficulties that they have endured because of the COVID-19 pandemic. So this was a very good way of getting them involved in something well organized and structured,” he pointed out.
He said that based on what was seen over the two –week period, the students had lots of fun and they learned a lot.
“During the two weeks, a lot of learning took place. Not only football-related but life skills as well which they will need to get them further in life. They also improved their knowledge of the game which is a very important aspect of player development.
“Several topics were covered and several individuals made presentations ranging from the history of Dominica to public speaking skills. It was really great to see the enthusiasm on their faces,” he added with a sense of accomplishment.
According to Titre, the event would not have been a success without the support of various supporters and sponsors.
“I want to express heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the many sponsors and to those who ensured the success of the program. Without their assistance, we would not have a program.
“Special mention must be made of Perky’s Pizza, Digicel, Fine Foods Inc., NCCU, Josephine Gabriel and Company, Sports Division, the Government of Dominica, FCIB, Olive’s Ever Fresh Products, Harris Paints and Roseau South MP, Shekira Hypolite.
“We want to thank the many parents and students for giving their full support and cooperation,” he said thankfully.
