Deles Warrington of Calibishie named the CARICOM Farmer of the Year

Deles Warrington of Calibishie was named the CARICOM Farmer of the Year and has received congratulations from Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit on his achievement.

The CARICOM Farmer of the year is to highlight the work of farmers across the region who are contributing to the advancement of the agricultural sector in their respective countries.

In extending his congratulations to Warrington, Prime Minister Skerrit labeled the award on him as “outstanding and (he) Warrington “is deserving of the honour.”

“For many years, he has been a true example of hard work and industry and of grit and, determination even through the most challenging periods in agriculture and he continues to demonstrate that great potential within the sector to boost economic growth, sustain the sector to create jobs,” Skerrit said.

He states that the success of Warrington underscores the critical role of agriculture in strengthening food systems, feeding families and communities, and enhancing livelihoods.

“I believe that Mr. Warrington’s achievements and this high level should serve as an inspiration to all citizens, it is a living example of the resilience that we speak of in the face of climate change, natural disasters, and the impact of the global pandemic,” he said.

“I hope that our youth will emulate Mr. Warrington’s example knowing that farming is a viable profitable venture if taken seriously.”
