Senior Magistrate Michael Laudat has admonished the prosecution and warned them that the failure to have police prosecution witnesses come to court is an “affront to justice.”
The Magistrate made his comments in open court in a court-related matter involving Kimani Romain, who was charged with possessing illegal firearms and ammunition for years.
“This matter before the court is now four years and it cannot be prosecuted…it bothers me, people are on the radio talking about firearms and ammunition and matters are at a standstill in the court,” the Senior Magistrate stated.
He continued, “Police Officers come to court when they want…they arrest and charge people and don’t come to come, doing what they want, this is an injustice to the system, and the people who are before the court want speedy justice.”
The Magistrate stated that “the year 2023 is almost done and summary matters before the court remain in the system before the court.”
“Stop delaying the administration of justice,” Magistrate Laudat stated. He warned that he would take action to ensure that police officers who are witnesses in matters come to court.
