Eldica John, the sister of Salisbury MP Hector John who earlier this week was arrested by police during a weekly march, has made her first court appearance since being granted Station bail by Police Sergeant Hifill Phillip.
John appeared before Magistrate Pearl Williams in Court number One where the charge of battery, resisting arrest, and obstruction was read to her by the clerk of court. She pleaded not guilty to all three charges.
Defense counsel Geoffery Letang who is representing her impressed on the court for a speedy trial in the matter and requested early disclosure from the prosecution led by Inspector Davidson Cadette.
The Magistrate informed the prosecution that disclosure must be made on or before November 1, 2022, and set trial for November 17, 2022.
“This is a simple summary matter which can be dealt with and disposed of quickly, we have too many simple summary matters clogging the system,” the Magistrate stated.
In accordance with Section 5 (1) of the Bail Act which empowers a senior police officer to grant station bail on “not serious matters,” she ruled that the terms and conditions as set by Seargent Phillip of $5,000.00 with Janet Vidal as surety will stand.
