Cornelius Joseph of Beotica pleaded guilty to the theft of five (5) mastiff bread from the vehicle of Foxey’s Bread on April 19, 2022.
Joseph was arrested and brought to court, but given his behaviour he was sent to the psychiatric unit for evaluation and returned to court on May 9, 2022, with the doctor’s report stating that he is “now fit to plead.”
Even before the charge was read to him he told the court ” I am guilty…I stole the bread and not wasting time.”
Facts of the case
On April 19, 2022, Joseph approached the staff of Foxey’s Bread Depot in Roseau begging for “something to eat” he was told to go away which he did. He returned just after 2 pm and pushed the staff and then stole five (5) mastiff bread and went.
A police officer was in the area and was summoned, he subsequently arrested Joseph who admitted to stealing the bread.
He was charged with theft which carries a maximum of seven (years) in jail.
“Send me to Stock Farm…it is easier for me, forgive me for stealing the bread,” he told the court. Magistrate Laudat then inquired of him if he was taking his medication and he replied “yes sir, but send me to Stock Farm.”
“Tell me what to do with you,” the Magistrate inquired of him.
“Send me to Stock Farm to relax from Babylon I don’t have jobs and not getting any, give me three or four months in jail,” he said.
Even after further inquiring from him, he insisted that he want to go to jail. ” You are sentenced to four (4) months in jail,” the Magistrate stated. The bread is valued at $6.25
“Thanks very much, sir, love you with all my heart,” Joseph said leaving the courtroom. It must be noted that he has a long list of convictions and is no stranger to the court.

Oh my I was standing next to this man near HHV Whitchurch and flow and witnessed this poor guy I wish he did ask me prior to grabbing the bread from the van. This is sad no not jail for 5 loaves of bread. where hass our Humanity gone?
