Murder accused Samron Thomas granted bail

Two years after police arrested and charged 19-year-old Marvin Marlon Albert of Grand Colibrie and 20-year-old Samron Thomas of Montin Grand Bay for the murder of Damien Ernest, the High Court has granted bail in the sum of two hundred thousand dollars to Thomas.

Damien Ernest aged 23 years male adult of Back Street Kings Hill was found at about 11 am on the said date on the road close to the Boeri Lake lying face down with multiple gunshot wounds to his body in June 2020.

He was taken to the Casualty department of the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) where the body was pronounced dead.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) acting Sherma Dalrymple filed a notice of “no objection to the granting of bail”.

The court has now ordered a Magistrate to grant bail to Thomas in the sum of two hundred thousand dollars. As part of his bail conditions, he shall reside in Grand Bay with his mother Susan Fregiste.

“He shall report to the Grand Bay Police Station every weekday Monday to Friday between 6 am and 7 pm and shall immediately surrender his travel documents to the Magistrate’s court.”

Thomas is also forbidden from leaving the State without first seeking and obtaining permission from the High Court and shall “refrain from interfering with all witnesses in this matter.”

In breach of any of these conditions, bail shall be “revoked.”

Thomas is represented by attorney at law Wayne Norde while Albert is so far unrepresented.
