Tarish Pit man Mickel Ryner to pay compensation of $2,700 for theft of amplifier

The police have arrested and charged Mickel Ryner of Tarish Pit for the theft of an amplifier belonging to the Cheddy Stevens of Didier Goodwill.

Cheddy Stevens lives at 39 Didier Lane Goodwill, and he drives a bus HF930 that is owned by his father Albert Stevens.

Brief Facts

On Wednesday 1, February 2023 at about 9:15 pm, Cheddy Stevens parked his bus on the public road on Didier Lane Goodwill where he resides. In that vehicle was a black and pink Lexon Speaker and his Grey Amplifier iPod. The items were behind the driver’s seat on the bus.

On Thursday 2, February 2023 at about 7:30 am, he returned to his bus and noticed two of his side glass windows were forced open. He then inspected the bus and noticed that his Black and Pink Lexon Speaker and his Grey Amplifier iPod were missing from the vehicle.

He then started his investigations into the matter and on Wednesday 1, March 2023 he received certain information at 7:30 pm that day he made a formal report to the Roseau Police Station, and Constable Ruskin Fontaine of the General Investigations department was detailed to investigate.

Acting on certain information received on March 3, 2023, Constable Fontaine and other police officers went on duty at the home of Mickel Ryner in Tarish Pit, but he was not found. The police had a conversation with his sister who handed them a speaker fitting the description given by the defendant.

The police met the defendant at his home on Saturday, March 4, 2023, and informed him of the report being investigated and he replied, “Officer, from Reynold I get the Speaker.” He was then informed that he was being arrested on suspicion of theft and taken to the Roseau Police Station.

The complainant was then summoned to the Roseau Police Station that evening and in the presence of the defendant, he identified the Speaker as his own that was taken from his bus. When asked what he had to say Ryner replied, “Yes Officer, is his speaker that, I was bringing it for him.”

The following day Sunday, March 5, 2023, he was informed of his rights to have an attorney of his choice, but he replied, “Officer, I enter the bus, and the door was not locked, I take the speaker and Amplifier, I gave Abel the Amplifier about three weeks ago.”

He was then informed by the police that he was being formally arrested and charged with theft.

Sentence

When the charge was read to him, he pleaded guilty before Magistrate Hansel Valarie and was fined EC$1,500 to be paid on or before August 31, 2023, in default 12 months in jail. He was further ordered to pay compensation to Cheddy Steven of EC$1,200.00 by November 30, 2023 in default 12 months in jail
