Dominica continues to struggle at ALBA GAMES in Venezuela

Dominican Cyclist Ajani Casimir continued to make a mark for himself and Dominica as he finished in the top 15 of the Cycling Road Race at the 5th ALBA Games in Venezuela on Sunday.

The 16-year-old Casimir who finished 6th in the time trials on Friday, returned on Sunday completing the 132-kilometer race and finishing in 13th place. Casimir completed the race in 3 hours 2 minutes and 18 seconds. He finished 13th in a field of 39 riders, in which only 14 completed the grueling race. 25 riders failed to complete the course.

Casimir’s time was top amongst his age group and he was only beaten by elite cyclists most of them over the age of 20.

Arocha Reinaldo of Venezuela won the race in a time of 2 hours and 53 minutes and 12 seconds.

Dominica’s girl’s football team went down 13-nil to Venezuela in their first football match of the competition.

The Dominica Girl’s Volleyball team lost in straight sets to the Venezuela “B” Team.

The Boy’s Volleyball team also went down in straight sets to the Venezuela “B” team.

The Dominica volleyball teams will be in action again on Monday when they come up against the Venezuela “A” team in both the boy’s and girls’ divisions. Dominica will also be in action in chess on Monday.

The Dominica Chess team has been doing quite well and has picked up a few victories over the first 3 days of competition.

Dominica will also hit the ring Monday in Boxing, with Super heavyweight Delroy Jno Charles expected to fight Monday evening.

Table Tennis will also make its first appearance at the ALBA Games Monday morning.

The Dominica Boy’s Volleyball Team got their campaign at the 5th ALBA Games in Venezuela off to a bad start as they lost in their opening encounter to powerhouse Nicaragua in their first match on Saturday.

The nature isle boys were off to a slow start in the first set, and despite a few bright moments, a number of unforced errors were their downfall as they lost the first set 25-8.

Dominica started off the second set shaky as well and was down 11-2, before making a little comeback but eventually lost the set 25-13.

Looking to avoid a straight sets defeat, the Dominica Team came out with a determined mindset in set 3, the scores were 13-8 at one point but the Nicaraguans were too much and Dominica lost the third set 25-15

Dominica lost 3-nil, The final scores were 25-8, 25-13, and 25-15.

Meantime Dominica’s Girl’s Volleyball Team also went down in their opening match of the 5th ALBA Games on Saturday afternoon.

The Nature Isle girls found the going tough against Nicaragua losing in straight sets.

The Final scores were 25-5, 25-6, and 25-7.
