Dominica Government awards Thea Lafond for her gold medal at NACAC Senior Championship

The Government of Dominica has taken a decision to award Thea Lafond $200,000.00 as a token of appreciation for her gold medal in Women’s Triple Jump at the NACAC Senior Championships held in The Bahamas.

Prime Minister Roosevelt made the revelations in Parliament on August 22, 2022. The money he stated will be deposited in a bank after discussions with the gold winning triple jumper.

Thea Lafond has maintained her position as the 2022 women’s triple jump champion after jumping 14.49m during her final jump and securing the gold on the last day of the NACAC Senior Championships held in The Bahamas on Sunday, August 21.

Following Kenturah Orji from the USA with a jump of 14.32m during the third round of the competition, the Commonwealth Games silver medallist have her best efforts to win the event.

Fernandez Velazco of Cuba jumped 14.08m to secure the bronze medal.

On Saturday night, LaFond was in the fourth position and jumped 6.43m in the long jump category. Quanesha Burks of the USA jumped 6.75m for the win over Christabel Netty of Canada (6.46m), followed by Jamaica’s Chanice Porter (6.43m).
