Dominica registers a COVID case after over 100 days

National epidemiologist Dr. Shalauddin Ahmed has confirmed that Dominica has recorded another case of COVID-19.

At a press conference, he confirmed that a British national who arrived on the island recently is Dominica’s new COVID-19 case.

“The total number of COVID cases in Dominica now moves to 19. The recent case is an imported case from the United Kingdom he is a British national. He arrived on the island on August 10. Prior to arrival, he had two PCR tests were done which were negative,” he said.

“The rapid test was done and was negative. He is asymptomatic  and continues to be…he was admitted to the COVID Center on August 20, 2020, and will be monitored for the next 14 days at the COVID Center, contact tracing is now ongoing,” Dr. Ahmed stated

“As it stands, now in Dominica, the total number of confirmed cases stands at 19, with active cases being 1 and 18 recovered cases with no death so far recovered”.

He said that to date the total number of PCR tests done stands at 1,938 with the total number of negative PCR results totaling 1, 919.

He also stated that from July 15 to Aug 20 roughly 690 persons have entered Dominica.
