Member of Parliament for Roseau North Danny Lugay was taken into police custody in Morne Daniel but was later released.
The reason for his arrest is unknown at this time.
The incident took place in Morne Daniel on Saturday evening near the prime minister’s residence, according to opposition leader Lennox Linton.
He said he, Lugay, and another person were returning from a funeral in the north of the island when they were stopped by police officers.
“Police officers stop the vehicle and ordered The Honorable Danny Lugay out of the vehicle,” Linton explained in Facebook Live video. “Initially he didn’t know what it was all about, so he was asking the question what is wrong and so on and they basically opened  the door and hustled him out of the vehicle.”
He stated that Lugay was pulled away to another vehicle by an officer who called himself “Sebastian.”
Lugay was then pushed into a car “and they backed the car into the driveway leading to the mansion of the prime minister’s residence,” Linton said.
“Before that happened, I came out of the vehicle and Sebastian came up towards me pointing his finger, telling me I am obstructing him in his work and he is not going to warn me again,” the opposition leader remarked. “So I said to him, I don’t know what obstructing you mean, I was in this vehicle on the public road and I’ve come out of the vehicle to see what you are doing with my colleague Danny Lugay and you are telling me that I am obstructing you.”
He stated that Sebastian kept pointing his finger at him in a “threatening way” and then proceeded to go and deal with Lugay.
Linton explained that he is not sure what was going on since a vehicle into which Lugay was pushed into had left the scene, possibly for the police station in Roseau.
“This is some really crazy stuff because Danny Lugay was not on anybody’s property,” he stated. “Danny Lugay was on the public road in a vehicle and he was pulled out the vehicle by police officers.”
He said situations like this will get worst in Dominica is citizens don’t stand up and say they have enough.
“Danny Lugay has done absolutely nothing,” Linton stated. “He was on the public road. He as not out of the vehicle, he was on the public road. The police stopped the vehicle and ordered him out of the vehicle.”
Linton said he was not pleased by the way Lugay was handled and pointed out that it “is not going to go down well.”
“Not with me and not with the right-thinking people of Dominica,” he remarked.
Lugay was subsequently released.
