Member of Parliament for the Salisbury constituency Jesma Paul Victor will be sworn in as opposition leader in Dominica in what is expected to be a sharing of the role with Marigot MP Anthony Charles.
Charles had defeated the DLP’s Gregory Riviere by a margin of 491 to 329 votes. The independent candidate Carlos Charles received six votes. Paul-Victor defeated the DLP’s Lynsia Frank by 617 votes to 463 votes.
Both ran as “Independent candidates” in the stronghold of the United Workers Party (UWP) which boycotted the polls for lack of “electoral reform.” She is said to hold the post for 18 months after which Charles will take it up also for 18 months.
Both are to name two opposition senators to make up the complement of parliament according to the Dominica Constitution.
