Stiff penalties for breaching quarantine regulations

Coordinator of the reopening of Borders Program, Dr. Laura Esprit, has announced that the government has imposed a penalty to nationals and non-nationals alike traveling to Dominica who fail to adhere to mandatory quarantine.

There have been numerous complaints that nationals coming to Dominica are not adhering to the mandatory home quarantine which is required.

At a Ministry of Health press briefing, Dr. Esprit had this to say.

The authorities have approved several penalties for persons who leave the quarantine facility without permission.  

“As it relates to penalties, the following penalties have been approved; the penalty for non-adherence to mandatory quarantine in the Commonwealth of Dominica is EC$5000 or 6 months imprisonment and the penalty for providing false information on your health questionnaire would be EC$1000 or 3 months imprisonment,” she stated.

Meanwhile, Dominica remains at two active Covid-19 cases, while 17 tests are still pending. The total number of confirmed cases now stands at 20.

National Epidemiologist, Dr. Shallauddin Ahmed revealed that the two new cases are “asymptomatic and doing well and are still in the COVID treatment center.”

He also stated that the total number of PCR tests conducted so far is 2,077 and the total number of negative PCR results obtained is 2057.
