Electoral Commission Chairman responds to Opposition Leader and Concerned Citizens

Chairman of the Dominica Electoral Commission Duncan Stowe has responded to Opposition Leader Lennox Linton and Concerned Citizen’s reference alleged allegations that the nomination of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) candidate Vince Henderson was “illegal.”

Henderson has been nominated for the Grand Bay By-Election as the DLP candidate on November 25, 2021.

However, opposition leader Linton and Athie Martin of the Concerned Citizens has written to the Electoral Commission charging allege breaches by Henderson in contravention of the Dominica House of Assembly Elections Act.

In his to Linton dated November 24, 2021, Stowe wrote, “Your letter was brought before a meeting of the Commission on November 15, 2021. The matter was discussed extensively but it was not decided to accede to your request.”

He also dismissed a letter from the Concerned Citizens stating, ” I can find no legal authority that empowers the Commission to investigate a candidate who has been validly nominated prior to a by-election….”
