Press Statement from APP

The Alternative Peoples` Party is serious about the people of Grand Bay and while we regret not contesting the upcoming by-elections, we want the people of Grand Bay to know that we have serious developmental plans for the constituency. An APP Government will ensure that Grand Bay is officially established as a `Southern City` with the timely declaration of township/city status granted to Grand Bay and corresponding suburbs.

All the requirements for granting a township include an official treasury, improved capacity for law enforcement and fire/ambulance services, a fully equipped and functional hospital, government administrative offices, a farmers’ market and cultural plaza, banks, and other public and private institutions will be established.

Businesses will be granted necessary concessions to facilitate their operations in Grand Bay and a state-of-the-art shopping mall will be constructed. A full capacity seaport will be built in the Stowe area to facilitate travel to and from Grand Bay, to serve as a commercial hub for the exportation of agricultural produce and other locally manufactured goods. This port would also connect Grand Bay with the state-of-the-art Fond St. Jean fisheries complex that will be constructed by an APP Government.

The Ma Tu Tu`s Park will be transformed into a National Heritage site and Cultural Museum. The Southern Wing/Campus of the Dominica State College will be built in the vicinity of the Pierre Charles Secondary School and this will serve students from the southern and south easterly villages. An APP government will work with the Roman Catholic Church to rebuild or restore the historic church building. Grand Bay will be the headquarters for Dominica`s Cannabis Industry. The Grand Bay playing field will be upgraded to a first-class cricketing facility.

The Pierre Charles National Basketball Training Complex will be built in Grand Bay. Dominica`s Folk Research Institute and Independence Resistance Movement will be established in Grand Bay. ‘Youth against Drugs and Violence’ will be given an official office in the ‘Youth and Community Building Center’ which will be established in the name of Edward Registe.

Chubby and Co. will be declared as national treasures and The Midnight Groovers will be a protected musical artifact along with Grammacks and Exile One. An App Government will make agriculture great again in Grand Bay. An access road will be constructed through the Makaton lands creating opportunities for farmers to again utilize these lands. Farmers from Grand Bay would be among other farmers on the island placed on a government-subsidized program where they would be paid no less than three thousand five hundred dollars ($3500.00) monthly for up to a year and be given all the logistics support necessary to immediately resume productive agribusiness. Additionally, vegetable farmers from Grand Bay would receive incentives for the procurement of greenhouses and the installation of irrigation systems through an APP national irrigation project.

An App government will offer every elite farmer in Grand Bay the opportunity to have a secondary or primary family home constructed on their properties allocated to farming. The construction of a road through the Mohpow lands will be given top priority. This road would create an alternate route to Bellevue from one end and would also provide a linkage from Grand Bay to Soufriere. Corresponding farmlands will consequently become easier accessed by the respective farmers who work these lands. The lands in the Grand Coulibri area will be utilized for agricultural stations. An APP government will ensure that the farmers in Grand Bay embrace their independence once again. The youth of Grand Bay will be granted equal opportunities within the agricultural sector through an APP youth development agriculture thrust.

This will take focus on rare agricultural skills to include botany, propagation, agro-processing, and the extraction of essential oils. Low-income earners and the youth of Grand Bay will benefit from a first-time homeowners’ program which will grant them complete ownership of their homes from day one. Senior citizens and vulnerable persons will be given homes, while opportunities for self-development to improve the quality of life will be made available to struggling and young single mothers.

An App government will put an end to poverty by creating opportunities for ALL the people of Grand Bay. There is hope because your people`s party, The Alternative Peoples` Party will for the first time in a very long time put you the people of Grand Bay first. We are there for you and will call upon you at the next general elections to invest your vote in APP
