Promex Harlem United ended their championship drought when they added yet another top division title to their impressive collection.
On Sunday at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium, Harlem, which is celebrating its 50th year of existence, walked away with the 2020 Dominica Football Association (DFA) Recovery Cup Knock Out competition.
It was Harlem that prevailed in the rivalry between the Roseau South-based clubs as they edged out Happi Bath Estate FC by five goals to four on penalty kicks after the game was tied at three goals at the end of regulation time.
Harlem went into the lead in the 27th minute of play via the own goal route when the Bath Estate defender deflected the ball into his own net.
Three minutes later, Bath Estate drew level after a superb free-kick by national player Julian Wade just outside the 18.
With the scores at one all at half time, Jarvis Humphrey gave his club the one-goal advantage with his well-placed goal two minutes after the resumption of play.
Audel Laville made it three goals to one in the 68th minute of play to spark the celebration. However, Bath Estate had other ideas and pulled one back in the 72nd minute through their captain, Kelrick Walter. The equalizer came six minutes later when Julian Wade scored for his second goal of the encounter.
Both clubs fought hard for that all-important goal but that was not to be and the game had to be decided on kicks from the penalty spot.
Harlem netted all their five penalties while Bath Estate FC missed their 4th shot. Derrickson McDonald Jr. was the Bath Estate player that failed to convert. Delbert Graham scored the winning penalty for the eight goals to seven-win on aggregate.
After the encounter, Harlem United coach, Don Leogal praised his players and said that the championship was a 50th-anniversary gift.
Bath Estate FC coach Collin Bernard, though disappointed, also praised his players for their efforts. It’s the second time this season that Harlem United stopped Bath Estate FC in their title aspirations.
NIN congratulates Promex Harlem United on their well deserved championship.
