Magical Troy powers Dominica to win in Concacaf Nations League opener

By Garvin Richards

Providence, Turks and Caicos-Overseas-based winger Troy Jules got a dream debut as he helped Dominica to a win in their Concacaf Nations League opener against the Turks and Caicos Islands on Tuesday.

Jules who lives in Antigua and was recently signed to play professionally in Jamaica got two goals on either side of the half as Dominica beat the Turks to move to the top of the points table in Group C of League C.

Jules opened the scoring in the 18th minute of play, as he nicely controlled a long pass, and hit a rocket with his left foot to beat the diving goalkeeper on his near post.

The goal was just a reward for the national team as they dominated possession in the early stages of the match.

Dominica had a number of other chances in the first half, but couldn’t convert, and went into the halftime break with a 1-nil lead.

The second half was more of the same, more pressure from the attacking players, and Troy Jules doubled Dominica’s lead when he cut back nicely on the edge of the box, this time using his right foot to get another goal past the keeper.

Dominica continued to enjoy the bulk of possession but again missed many opportunities.

Turks and Caicos almost pulled a goal back in the 77th minute but Erskim Williams made the clearance on the line to preserve the clean sheet.

Briel Thomas got the 3rd and final goal in stoppage time, as he drove into the box and hit one across the keeper.

Dominica took the match 3-nil and moved to the top of the points table in Group C of League C on goal difference over the BVI.
