Xavier and Casimir pilot south teams to victory

Several teams made winning starts last weekend when the 2021 Dominica Cricket Association Trading International Group T20 National Cricket League bowled off.

In one of two matches played on Saturday, Police Sports Club secured an easy victory over the Reuben’s Bakery Christian when they met at the Botanic Gardens in Roseau.

After being invited to take the first knock, the lawmen reached 132 all out from 17.5 overs. Leading the way were Albert George and Garvin James with 32 and 17 runs respectively. Chris Alfred aided the total with 14 runs from just five balls faced.

Bowling for Christian, Kensely Seraphine finished with two for 35.

Set a victory target of 133, Christian was bowled out for 79 in 14.4 overs to hand victory to the Police Sports Club by 53 runs. Cuthbert Maronie with 22 runs was the main contributor.

Chris Alfred with three for 18 and Jermaine Moses with two for 18 were the leading wicket-takers.

In another encounter at the Benjamin Park in Portsmouth, Jungle Bay Hurricanes proved too powerful for the lads of the DCA Cricket Academy as they secured victory by 71 runs. All-rounder Malakai Xavier hit an unbeaten 77.

For the Cricket Academy, Joel Durand claimed two for 10, and Edmund Morancie finished with 1 for 33.

Set a victory target of 153, the DCA Academy was bowled out for 81. Darren Toussaint was the only batsman to put up resistance with an unbeaten 26.

Shaheim Caesar bagged three for five. Caesar was ably supported by Malakai Xavier with two for 17 and Felix Etienne with two for 5.

In other results on Sunday, Go Sports Tremors defeated Sagicor Somerset as former Windward Island middle-order batsman Kirsten Casimir rolled back the years with a fine half-century to pilot his team to a 149 runs victory at the Botanic Gardens.

Casimir stroked a fine 60 as Tremors reached an imposing 210 for five in their allotment of 20 overs. Vivian Titre with 48 and Rick James provided valuable support with 48 and 35 runs respectively.

Bowling for Somerset, Bradley Byam took two for 25 to be the most successful bowler.

In reply, Somerset was bowled out for a paltry 61 after losing wickets at regular intervals. Only Ian Lewis with 13 runs reached double figures. Martin Matthew with three for 11 and Nigel Jno Lewis with two for 15 were the most successful bowlers for Tremors.

In another match played, Colts defeated Nagico Stars by six wickets. Nagico Stars batted first and scored 91 for 9 in 20 overs. Colts replied with 92 for four.
