Weather Outlook for Dominica and the Lesser Antilles

Valid from: 6:00 AM on Sunday, August 8, 2021

Moisture and instability trailing a tropical wave are expected to produce periods of moderate to heavy showers and possible thunderstorms across the Lesser Antilles, particularly during the morning. A relative improvement in conditions is expected from this afternoon into Monday.

People in areas prone to flooding, landslides, and falling rocks are advised to exercise caution during the morning.

Meanwhile, two other tropical waves in the Atlantic are being monitored for development. The first wave and associated low-pressure area are projected to be a significant rainfall event mainly across the northern half of the Lesser Antilles, including Dominica, by Monday evening into Tuesday. Projected rainfall is 2 to 4 inches during the period. A Flood Watch or Warning may be required.

The second, in the eastern Atlantic, could become a tropical depression as it moves over the Atlantic, during next week. This system is expected to be near the Lesser Antilles by Thursday into Friday. Residents are advised to monitor the progress of these systems.

Slight to moderate seas are anticipated during the next 24 hours with waves peaking near 7.0ft.

The Dominica Met. Service will continue to provide the necessary updates as they become available.
