Dominican Cyclist Bram Sanderson dies in road accident in Antigua

Dominican cyclist Bram Sanderson has died following an accident on the Sydney Walling Highway and American Road this morning August 13, 2023

According to reports, Sanderson, 30, was pronounced dead on his way to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center, following the accident involving a pickup and a motorcycle that occurred at about 3:05 am.

The motorcycle was reportedly traveling from west to east while the pick-up was traveling from north to south as they approached the intersection.

The Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene within four minutes of receiving the call. Still, reports are that the impact left Sanderson with severe injuries, and he died despite efforts by the EMS team.

Meanwhile, the pillion rider, 29-year-old Daniel Jno Baptiste also from Dominica, was sent hurtling over the fence at Harney Motors and onto the compound.

He is now a patient at the SLBMC, nursing multiple injuries to his head and hip. The pick-up driver was not seriously injured.

Family and friends of Daniel Jno Baptiste aka Gyaz say he remains in critical condition at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center after suffering serious injuries during an on the Sydney Walling Highway and American Road this morning.

In 2018, Bram Sanderson made history when he became the first Dominican to participate in cycling at the Commonwealth Games.

Police in Antigua are continuing investigations into the matter.
