Dear Youth of Dominica,
I hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits as we come together to
commemorate International Youth Day 2023. On this occasion, I am immensely proud and
honoured to address you as the President of the National Youth Council of Dominica.
This year, we celebrate under the theme “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable
World.” As we look towards the future, it is our responsibility as the youth of Dominica to
take an active role in shaping a more sustainable and environmentally conscious world. Our
actions today will not only define our own lives but also determine the fate of generations to come.
Under the banner “Our Council, Our Youth, Our Future,” we reaffirm our commitment to
working together for the betterment of our nation and our planet. The National Youth Council of Dominica is not just an organisation; it is a collective force that represents the dreams, aspirations, and hopes of the young people of this beautiful nation.
As we celebrate International Youth Day, let us take a moment to reflect on the challenges
we face in building a sustainable world. Climate change, environmental degradation, and the depletion of natural resources are pressing concerns that require urgent action.
Therefore, it is imperative that we, the youth, equip ourselves with green skills that enable us to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development.
Embracing green skills means adopting practices that promote renewable energy, eco-friendly agriculture, waste reduction, conservation, and sustainable urban planning. By
nurturing these skills, we not only secure a healthier and greener future for ourselves but
also, pave the way for a prosperous Dominica.
Our Council is committed to supporting you, the youth, in acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills to champion sustainability. Through various educational programs, training initiatives, and community projects, we aim to empower you to become eco-conscious leaders and change-makers.
Together, we can create a ripple effect that transforms our communities and our country.
Each small step we take towards sustainability can lead to a significant leap in safeguarding
our natural heritage and preserving the beauty of Dominica for generations to come.
On this momentous occasion, I call upon all young people to unite and collaborate towards a common goal – a sustainable Dominica.
Let us utilise our creativity, innovation, and passion to make a positive impact. By working together, we can ensure that our voices are heard and our actions inspire others to join us in this noble journey.
