Police make arrests for illegal firearm and ammunition

Four men are presently in police custody assisting them in the discovery of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

On Friday, November 17, 2023, members of the Drugs Squad and Task Force of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) were conducting a vehicular check in the Woodford Hill area.

According to police, a Honda SUV carrying four men was searched during that check. During that search, a Taurus 9mm pistol with a magazine containing five rounds of live ammunition was found and seized for investigation. The four men, one from Grand Fond and three from Calibishie have all been arrested for possession of firearm and ammunition and kept in police custody.

In October, the government gave a one-month amnesty asking persons to bring in their illegal firearms and ammunition without being prosecuted. Only two were brought in, and that gun amnesty has since been extended to November 30, 2023.
