A former student of the WS Stevens Primary School is the recipient of the 2023 Billy Doctrove Scholarship presented by Big Edge Financial Express.
The annual scholarship is presented by Big Edge Financial to an outstanding student-athlete from the Primary Schools who was successful at the National Assessment Exams.
The student-athlete is selected by the Sports Division on behalf of Big Edge Financial and for the 2023/2024 academic school year, Jahry Prince, who will be attending the North East Comprehensive School is the recipient of that award.
This year’s recipient represented Dominica at the OECS Junior Table Tennis Championship in Grenada, he also won the Primary Schools singles Table Tennis Championship and helped his school to win the team event.
According to the Sports Division, the young athlete, was instrumental in his school winning the Boy’s Division of the Primary Schools Volleyball Festival, and was a member of the school’s football and cricket teams. He was successful at the National Assessment receiving a pass.
His mother Marylood Edwards expressed “thanks and appreciation” to Big Edge for the scholarship and vowed to “do her best to ensure that her son does his best in academics and sports.” Young Prince also expressed his gratitude promising to do his best in his school work and sports.
Managing Director of Big Edge Financial Express Antonillia Doctrove explained that it was the 12th year the company was presenting this award and the scholarship is valued at EC$1,000.00 and runs for a five-year period that includes an allowance to assist the student in his training of chosen sports.
“Additionally, the Billy Doctrove Sports Scholarship will also meet the full cost of CXC examination fees,” she said.
