Magistrate Michael Laudat has sentenced Dosen Fitzroy Alexander of Grand Bay to 18 months in jail after he pleaded guilty to possession of a .22 Revolver which was unlicensed and he not being the holder of a firearms license.
According to the facts, as outlined in court by Police Prosecutor Inspector Frank Commodore, on June 1, 2022, acting on reliable information received, the police armed with a search warrant went to the home of the defendant reference a report of “kidnapping and burglary which occurred on May 31, 2022.”
On arrival at the home at about 3:30 pm, the officers identified themselves to him as police officers and informed him that they had a search warrant to search his premises. When asked if he had anything illegal at his home he replied “no.”
In conducting the search the firearm was found on the ledge of the window in the bedroom and when asked about it he stated, “Officer, my thing that, an old thing I get in the rubbish.”
He was arrested on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm. The Firearm was sent for testing and examination and had serial number33262. On Friday, June 3, 2022, he was charged with burglary and kidnapping and brought to the Magistrate’s court where he was remanded to prison.
On June 23, 2022, in continuation of their investigations on the firearm, a check at the Firearms register revealed that he was not a firearms license holder. The police also conducted an interview with him at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) where he admitted that the firearm belonged to him.
He was then formally arrested and charged with the offense of having a firearm without a firearms license.
Alexander is no stranger to the court dating back to 1996 with offenses of theft, burglary, vagrancy, malicious damage, possession of cannabis, resisting arrest, armed with an offensive weapon, and escaping lawful custody among others. He was sentenced to 18 months in jail for the offense of possession of an unlicensed firearm without being the holder of a firearms license.
It’s seems like the government, law enforcement, judges and magistrates, lawyers and the whole court shitstem want criminals to be at large! A criminal who has been involved with so many criminal activities is only sentenced to 18 months in prison for illegal possession of a firearm, while Marijuana smokers are given harsher sentences? Maybe it’s because he’s from a labah party stronghold?
