High Court Judge showers praises on ASP Claude Weekes

High Court Judge Wynante Adrien-Roberts has poured praises on senior police officer Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Claude Weekes for his discipline and outstanding quality of service as a police officer.

She made her comments as she addressed the court at the closing of the Criminal Session of the court. ASP Weekes has been in charge of the police officers during the Criminal Session for many years and Justice Adrien-Roberts labeled him “a model Police Officer” and said she wished those police officers would emulate his qualities.

“You are a model to the Police Force, and they (the Police Force) are quickly losing what you have brought to the Police Force,” Justice Adrien-Roberts stated.

“I must commend you for your fantastic discipline and outstanding qualities you have given to the country through your service to the Police Force over the years.”

The High Court Judge said that she hoped that those in the Police Force would “take a look at ASP Claude Weekes, his qualities and discipline and pattern yourself with that to help make the police force much better.”

This is not the first time that a sitting High Court Judge has showered praises on ASP Weekes, a few years ago then High Court Judge Errol Thomas also shared similar comments on the senior police officer.

The Judge also thanked those who served as jurors telling them that they were “the fact-finders in the cases” and encouraged them to be prepared to serve again when called and to also convince others to render their services to the country.

She also thanked the media for its role in disseminating information from the court to the public and stated that “the wheels of justice are turning.” Praises from her also went to her court staff, counsel Wayne Norde who she described as “good counsel who is always open and frank with the court.”

Meantime, Acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Sherma Dalrymple also came in for high praises from Justice Adrien-Roberts for her “hard work, discipline, and professionalism displayed.

In her closing remark DDP (acting) Dalrymple thanked the jurors for their service to the country. “We appreciate the work of the jury because without them we can do nothing,” she said.

She also thanked Justice Adrien-Roberts for her “guidance, patience, and tolerance.” “My Lady, we know that sometimes we drop the ball, but you have been a guiding force to us to bring us back on track,” Dalrymple stated. She labeled ASP Claude Weekes as their “prayer warrior” who they can always count on for prayers in every situation. “He is our prayer warrior…our backup and his control of his officers in the courtroom is exceptional,” she remarked.

Acting DPP Dalrymple also shared concerns that there is “no Law Library” and they are working with “very little resources under trying circumstances.

“Despite all that, My Lady, we pride ourselves as Ministers of Justice and always ensure that justice is always done,” she stated.
