Roseau North MP Danny Lugay to appear in court for “walking”

Member for the Roseau North constituency Daniel “Danny” Lugay has been summoned to court for what the police claim was “against the Public Order Act Chapter 15:01 of the revised Law of Dominica.

According to the police, Lugay, on March 30, 2022, at Roseau took part in a “public procession in the city of Roseau without the written permission of the Commissioner of police to do so.”

The matter is set for May 19, 2022.

For the past four to five weeks, several persons have been walking the streets of Roseau against what they claim is “the rampant corruption taking place in the Roosevelt Skerrit-led administration.

Last week, Prime Minister Skerrit labeled those taking part in the walk as “lazy” and stated that they will achieve “nothing” from the walk.

Police have also visited the home of activist Athie Martin who has been leading the walk and indicated to him that he will be summoned to appear before the court for the walk which they (the police claim) is “illegal and permission is first needed from the Commissioner of Police to so do.”

Nature Isle News (NIN) understands that a few other persons have also received a summons to appear before the court for “walking” (without the permission of the police.)
