Jobs of RUBIS Staff on the line

Staff off RUBIS West Indies Limited, Dominica (RUBIS Dominica) may very well be without a job effective October 1, 2022.

That’s because the company has issued termination letters to its 12 staff members according to its general manager Nicholson Dodds since the company claims it can no longer absorb the losses associated with selling fuel.

Speaking to Nature Isle News (NIN) as staff protested, he explained that the staff has “the full support of management in its protest action since they are the ones directly affected.

“All employees have all been served with their potential severance notice. So, at this point what they are doing is asking the government to come to the table to see what can be done to save the petroleum industry in the form of peaceful protest actions”, he said.

He explained that the company has had several discussions with the government on the issue over the years and as I speak, we are still very hopeful that the government will call us to the table, and we can arrive at an amicable solution.

“This impasse is not just affecting the few staff that you see but also has a domino effect for the economy,” he stated.

“We are being forced to subside the market selling products at below the price, RUBIS cannot continue this type of operation any longer.”

Asked if the other gas stations are in solidarity with his cause, he stated that they are equally affected. “I can confirm to you that they are equally impacted but what action they take is for them because we are all independent companies but as for RUBIS, we can no longer sustain those losses,” Dodds stated.
