DLP leader names his team for December 6 General Elections

Prime Minister and Leader of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) Roosevelt Skerrit has presented ten (10) new candidates to contest general elections slated for December 6, 2022. Among the new faces are 23-year-old Lakeyia Joseph, an entrepreneur of Bense, to contest the Paix Bouche Constituency; Chief Fisheries Officer Jullan Defoe, Petite Savanne Constituency; and secondary school teacher Fenella Wenham, Portsmouth Constituency.

Banker Daren Pinard will contest the Colihaut Constituency; Pediatrician, Dr. Cassandra Williams, Laplaine Constituency; Dominica Grammar School teacher Darron Lloyd, St. Joseph Constituency; Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Works and the Digital Economy, Roland Royer, Cottage Constituency; and Health Administrator Lynsia Frank, Salisbury Constituency.

Economist, Miriam Blanchard, the former Minister for Economic Development and Planning and Public Works and Ports will contest the Roseau North Constituency, and Minister for Public Works and the Digital Economy Cassanni Laville will make a bid to represent the Mahaut Constituency.

Returning candidates, Dr. Vince Henderson (Grand Bay), Chekira Lockhart-Hypolite (Roseau South), Gregory Riviere (Marigot), Gretta Roberts (Morne Jaune/Riviere Cyrique), Fidel Grant (Wesley), Cozier Frederick (Salybia), Denise Charles (Soufriere), Dr. Irving McIntyre (Roseau Valley), Melissa Poponne-Skerrit (Roseau Central) and Octavia Alfred (Castle Bruce) complete the DLP election ticket.

Prime Minister Skerrit unveiled what he described as “Labour’s Team for these times” before a mammoth crowd of DLP supporters at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium Forecourt on Tuesday night.

The DLP Leader had announced December 6 as the date for fresh general elections in Dominica during a radio and television broadcast on Sunday, November 6.

“We need a refreshed Dominica Labour Party team, for these very unpredictable, unprecedented, and very challenging times. “The Dominica Labour Party must continue to be the beacon of hope. It must be the option for those who wish to see our country progress. The challenges that we face are now…they are already upon us. We cannot take chances with the future of this country,” Prime Minister Skerrit said, adding that “we have set ourselves on a progressive path of development and growth that will see prosperity for our people and our country.” Nomination Day will be November 18.
